violin soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra concertmaster, violinist Kim
Hyun-jung won first place at the Hankook Ilbo Competition, the Journal of Music
Competition, the Munhwa Ilbo Competition, the Sungjung Music Competition, and
the Nanpa Competition, and was selected as a Kumho Young Artist. She has also
won several awards overseas at the 2nd Yokohama International Music Competition
(2nd place), the American Prize, the American Fine Arts Festival
International Competition, the Zion International Duo Competition "A Feast
of Duos" and the 2014 Sion Ballet International Competition (now the
Junior Tibor Varga International Competition, 3rd place), and was
selected the Best Performer in Lausanne, Switzerland. Kim was awarded the first
prize by the unanimous acceptance by the jury at the 6th Moscow International
Competition for her outstanding musicality. Since then, she has been invited to
perform at various concerts such as the Kumho Rising Star Series, KBS Classical
Odyssey, MBC TV’s Arts Stage and Seoul Arts Center.Kim also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber
Orchestra, and New England Symphony Orchestra, among others, to a great
acclaim. She has appeared in the Korean Chamber Orchestra’s Troika Concert, the
Heartfelt Classics with KT at Seoul Arts Center, Prime Philharmonic Orchestra’s
“Bang Bang Gokgok Festa,” the Songgang Concert, and the “Wednesday Listening
Party,” and her performances have been broadcast on the radio throughout
Switzerland when she won the best performance award from the city of Lausanne.Having served as concertmaster and the youngest music director of the
Philharmonia Boston Chamber Orchestra and as a guest performer and faculty
member at the Banff Centre Music Festival in Canada and the Green Mountain
Chamber Music Festival in the US, she gave her solo and chamber music concerts at
Carnegie’s Weill Hall and Zankel Hall, Lincoln Center, Jordan Hall, and Troy
Hall, and her performance at Lincoln Center in New York was released worldwide
through Spice Classics.After graduating from Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School with the
special award bestowed to the proud alumni, and Seoul National University
College of Music, she completed her Master’s program at the New England
Conservatory and her Artist Diploma course at the Pinchas Zukerman Performance
Program of the Manhattan School of Music, both on full scholarship. And she
also completed her doctoral program at Boston University (BU), where she
received the Honors Award. Kim has studied with Kim Min, Lee Kyung-sun, and Pee
Ho-young in Korea and with world-renowned virtuoso Pinchas Zukerman, Donald
Weilerstein, and Veila Kais in the US. Currently, she continues to perform as a
full member of the Korean Chamber Orchestra and teaches at Sookmyung Women’s
University, Sungshin Women’s University, Yewon School, and Sunhwa Arts Middle
