PROFILEThe violinist Pyo Sang-hwa captivates audiences with her colorful and splendid melodies and beautiful interpretations of music. Graduated from Deokwon Arts High School and received a four-year scholarship from the College of Music at Sungshin Women’s University, she pursued further study in Japan in the Graduate School of Music of Tohoku Gakuin University, a prestigious music academy, and completed the Orchestra Academy with a three-year full scholarship and the Toho Akademie Orchestra summa cum laude. Upon graduation, she flew to Germany and completed the master’s course with a perfect score unanimously from the judges in solo performance and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany, laying the foundation for becoming a professional violist Before returning to Korea, she served as associate principal of the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany, performing live on WDR radio, recording CDs of Rachmaninoff’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd symphonies, and recording Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 in E flat major (Symphony of a Thousand) on CD with the Dortmund Philharmonic and Düsseldorf Philharmonic. She also performed with renowned musicians such as conductor Marek Janowski, oboist Albrecht Meier, violinists Guy Braunstein and Augustin Hadelich, and cellist Johanes Moser and etc. Afterwards, her musicality was highly recognized within the orchestra, and she performed on the Dortmund Philharmonic’s Milan, Italy tour and performed the Sinfoniekonzert as the principal at the Dortmund Konzerthaus. After a successful performance, she was offered an audition by Gabriel Feltz, a chief conductor, for the principal whose position had been vacant for several years, and as the first chair of the Französisch Kammerphilharmonie, she received great reviews from professional media after performing at the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sansouci and Kölner Philharmonie.
