Skillful both at baroque cello and viola da gamba, Kang Ji-yeon was taught by Koo Soo-jeong, Kim Tae-kyun and Kang Hae-geun and graduated from Hanyang University and its Graduate School. While performing as a member of Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, she went over to Netherlands to earn a bachelor’s and a master’s degrees in baroque cello at the Utrecht Conservatory and the Amsterdam Conservatory. And she studied viola da gamba with Joshua Cheatham at the same time while studying baroque cello with Viola de Hoog and obtained a bachelor’s degree at the Amsterdam Conservatory under Mieneke van der Velden.Currently Kang plays as the principal cellist of Collegium Musicum Seoul and is a member of Confrerie Musica, a group she co-founded with her friends she studied with in the Netherlands, playing basso continuo or solo.
