Introduction‘Scala’ originates from the Latin word ‘scandere,’ meaning "to climb
to a high place," and in musical terms it denotes the scale, the basic
element of music. Just as the scale plays a fundamental and important role as
the most basic element in the musical structure, the Trio Scala pursues the
same musical ideal by continually striving to reach higher levels.Formed in Germany, Trio Scala was recognized by winning the first prize at
the Peredur-Stiftung Kammermusikwettbewerb Chamber Music Competition in Kassel,
Germany, as well as the Audience Award for the best response from the jury and
the audience. Then the Trio was selected for the Zusatzstudium program at Staatliche
Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim, where all members were
accepted simultaneously to study and continue their musical journey. They were also recognized as a competent chamber music group by being
invited to perform at the prestigious Heidelberg Chamber Music Festival in
Germany. After returning to Korea after performing actively in Hamburg, Frankfurt,
Mannheim, Heidelberg, Kassel, and Goslar, Trio Scala has been performing a
number of concerts on various stages every year, especially in 2021 at the
Korean Art Song Chamber Music Festival where they participated in the
performance of Prof. Hong Seung-ki’s composition based on a collection of poems
written by one of Korea’s greatest lyrical poets Jeong Ji-yong, presenting a
beautiful and experimental stage that expresses Korean beauty and the emotion
of ‘han’ of the era.Trio Scala is a chamber music ensemble that takes a strong step forward into
the Korean music scene with a pure passion for music while seeking to fulfill
