Munich Philharmonic Orchestra(Münchner Philharmoniker), the true
successor of the German sound, comes on the Sejong stage in November. Münchner PhilharmonikerMünchner Philharmoniker, pride of south Germany, will be partnered
with world-renowned Korean conductor Myung-Whun Chung and Korean star pianist
Lim Yunchan for an all-Beethoven program in the upcoming concert. Well-recognized
for clear, transparent tones and a perfect, distinguished balance from the
Orchestra’s past visits, this concert undoubtedly cannot be missed.ConductorMyung-Whun ChungStarting with Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken in Germany,
the world-famous Korean maestro Myung-Whun Chung has conducted many prestigious
orchestras both in France and Italy such as Teatro Comunale Florence as a guest
principal conductor, Orchestre de la Bastille as Opéra Bastille’s music
director, and Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia as the principal
conductor. From 2000 to 2015, he led the Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio
France and became the first principal guest conductor in the history of the Staatskapelle Dresden. Chung
has also dedicated his time for the artistic and social causes; he served as
the artistic director and principal conductor of Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra
from 2005 to 2015 and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra made Chung a Special
Artistic Advisor in 2001, its Honorary Conductor Laureate in 2010, and its
Honorary Music Director in 2016. SoloistPianist Lim YunchanBorn in 2004, pianist Lim Yunchan took the music world by storm by
becoming the youngest person ever to win not only the gold medal, but also the
Audience Award and the Best Performance of a New Work
in the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022. His
final round performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 conducted by
Marin Alsop is currently the most viewed video of the piece on YouTube. It
peaked at #24 on YouTube’s global trending list and accumulated nearly 12
million. Also, the performance was picked by the New York Times as one of the
best classical music performances of 2022. In 2019, Lim became the youngest ever winner of the Isang Yun Competition at the
age of 15, also winning the Audience Award and the Special Prodigy Award. In
2018, he won the second prize and the Chopin Award in the Cleveland
International Piano Competition for Young Artists and the third prize and the
Audience Award in the Cooper International Competition, resulting in the
performance with Cleveland Orchestra at the Severance Hall.In 2020, Lim was featured in the recording of the “2020 Young
Musicians of Korea” album, which was presented by the Korean Broadcasting System
and released in the same year. Also, his concerto performance of Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’
with Gwangju Philharmonic Orchestra was recorded and released in November 2022
and he regularly works with maestro Myung-Whun Chung and his One Korea
Orchestra.Lim graduated from Yewon School at the top of his class and has
been studying with Professor Sohn Minsoo at the Korea National University of
Arts since 2017.Since his winning the Van Cliburn Competition, Lim quickly became
one of the most sought-after pianists and completed a series of recitals to a
great success at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall in December 2022, London’s Wigmore Hall and
Paris’ Fondation Louis Vuitton in January and February 2023. He also made a
debut with Tokyo Philharmonic under Mikhail Pletnev in February 2023.OrchestraMunich Philharmonic OrchestraFounded in 1893, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra has
performed under many legendary conductors; Gustav Mahler premiered his Symphony
No. 4 and Symphony No. 8 with the orchestra, and Zubin Mehta, Christian

Since 2015, Valeri Gergiev became the Orchestra’s principal conductor and led the
world tour to Europe, Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan and the US. The Orchestra
also holds “MPHIL 360,” a festival to communicate with its diverse audience. As
a cultural icon of the city, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra runs a variety
of outreach programs to embrace audiences including children and the elderly.
The Orchestra made a fresh start for future at Munich’s newly-opened
Isarphilharmonie as its home in 2021.
